I'm glad the WCL is listening to the fans and working towards making some changes! I think the WCL has a lot of potential and reaching out to the fans with the polls is a good thing in my book. Here are a couple of changes I'd like to see happen for the next season. Some of this is covered in the polls posted, some of it not, but I wanted to put my thoughts down in one thread anyway.

I'd like to see the WCL ditch the pants in favor of boardshorts as well as lose the shin guards for sure. Like stated before, I think it would add a more pro feel to the matches instead of the FCR or point fighting-meets-full contact feel it currently has. Also, perhaps drop the alternate fighters and make the fights two consecutive rounds.

I'm not totally against the passivity rule per se, but I do think it's enforced a little too strictly; fighters sometimes need a second or two to strategize on their feet lest it becomes a slug fest. That said I think the short round time helps to spur on the fighters and probably makes it easier to air on tv.

Anyway, looking forward to a new season and new changes!

I'd also like to see the fighters be able to use elbow strikes. I think that would add another weapon and help out the Muay Thai guys too. I mean by removing the clinch and elbows, you've basically removed half of a MT fighter’s arsenal. Well there is the limited clinch, but I mean the full Thai clinch. This might level the playing field and bit and perhaps remove some of the stigma that the league caters to point fighters.

I agree with the elbows, but not so sure about the clinch.

I think the fighter should be able to catch the kick and throw one strike off of it much like the current clinch rule without being penalized.

Also add an individual tournament at the end of every year with the top 4, 6(top 2 get first round bye), or 8 in each weight and give a medal or belt to the winner.

I've thought about this before as well and I like the idea. Then the season could be taken into July for the tourny which would make for a great show and keep fan interested in the off-season.

I sort of enjoy the passivity rule because it doesn't allow for the wasting of time that some fighters, especially boxers, will do. I did not see that rule being over used last season, but I thought it was appropriate.

I do not think they should add the clinch in because I also enjoy more of the continually action off the grabs. Adding that rule also favors Muay Thai heavily and it gets boring to see the clinch again and again and again.

I think having an 8 person team would be good with no alternates (maybe?). Add another Women's weight class as well as a lighter Men's division possibly. There is definitely room for more weight classes. I think it would be good to build up that individual fighter and they would get more exposure which seems to be a problem now with the alternates. This would also allow some of the alternates to possibly become a starter on their team or with another team? I am just throwing stuff out there, but it's an idea....

I retrospect, I've changed my mind here. I think they should leave it at the limited clinch because (like you say) it would slow down the action; which is one of the WCL's main selling points.
