The league wants to know your opinion.
As fans and fighters would you prefer board shorts over the current WCL pants?
What pros/cons are there for each?

I think board shorts would be a lot better.
While I think the long pants give a nostalgic feel to the WCL. (pants being the recognizable feature of Kickboxing through the late 70's to early 90's)
But board shorts I think would be a lot better. Give the WCL a fresh new look, so they don't look like they're stuck in the past.
Plus shorts can give better room for kicking.
Def go for board shorts! |

Yeah board shorts are were it's at nowadays. Just watching the fighters kick in those pants make me feel like it would be restrictive. But if they lose the pants will they lose the shin guards as well? _________________ -Valiss |

The long pants cover up the shin guards and if the shin guards were shown, it might look a little gay. I say stay with the pants, they let the spectators know that it is kickboxing. |

Dead on. Shin guards with shorts would look like little league mma. The pants are uniquely WCL, keep them. |

The pants are from the past. This isn't FCR Kickboxing.
It's like Muay Thai/K-1 but with a point fighting flavor.
Make the fighters wear board shorts. |

If you lose the pants for boardshorts, you have to lose the shinguards. This would make it tough on fighters fighting every 6 weeks though. But it would look much better. |

Board shorts would look hideous, and would put across the impression that the WCL is simply trying to copy MMA. Also, shin guards = longer careers, and leg kicks are boring anyway.
Honestly, I can't believe we are talking about this... Can we talk about match-ups or league cities or anything but what type of pants a bunch of dudes should wear when they are fighting? |

I would stick with the pants and shin-instep guards for the WCL. It defines what the league is all about, a combination of all standup fighting styles with its own set of rules that promotes Kicking and “Full-Throttle” action.
In leg kick and Muay Thai, shorts must be worn to see the damage that the low kicks are doing to the legs. Board shorts are used in MMA due to the ground game, much less restriction. I would stay clear of them, they represent MMA.
WCL rules are very different from these styles of fighting. WCL rules are fast pasted non-stop action. WCL promotes kicking in lots of variations. Low Kick and Muay Thai fights are much slower paced and strategic. You still see great action, but it is not the same pace. You will see great kicking skills in Low Kick and Muay Thai, but it is very different. Low Kick and Thai style fighters kick primarily with their shins instead of their foot. This is due to the damage that is done to the foot when fighting without foot protection and the damage the shin does to your opponent. Defensive skills are much more used in these two styles. WCL demands constant offensive action from its fighters. They are penalized for not attacking and also for being too defensive or counter fighting only. WCL is all about offense.
Take away the shin-instep protection and you will see more damaged and injured fighters. WCL fighters fight around every month for several months in a row. Injuries will definitely be a problem. Gashed open shins and broken foot bones take time to heal. This will be nice for the backup fighters for sure. You will see much more of the backups if you lose the shin-instep guards. _________________ Steamroller by definition: A crushing force especially when ruthlessly applied to overcome opposition. You obviously know nothing of Kickboxing and probably should refrain from posting. Low kicks are not boring. Ever watch a Rob Kaman, or Ernesto Hoost bout? Hell, look at Pat Barry in the WCL. He dominated fights with low kicks alone, and it was exciting. |

Shaolin,
Leg kicks in the WCL are boring when you compare them to the more athletic head techniques... Pat Barry may be good (very good in fact), but he is the one of most boring fighters in the league to watch. |

I like the pants, if not pants use the tight, Cro Cop style short not board shorts. I do agree that if you wear the short they need to get rid of the shin gaurds though. But all in all I like the pants. |

We couldn't be more opposite. Pat Barry is by far the most exciting HW and definitely one of my favorite fighters in the league. It's obvious from his fights that he is far and above the other fights in skill level - I'd be surprised if he lost a bout in this league; he's just that far above the rest. His training with legendary Hoost really shows through and the low kicks are awesome to watch.
Did you see his fight vs Hawk? I've never seen someone eat so many brutal leg kicks! Hawk just crumpled and just looked really lost. The fact that you refer those as 'boring when you compare them to the more athletic head techniques' tells me that you probably don't watch a lot of kickboxing outside of the WCL. Check out some K-1 matches on youtube to get a better feel for how exciting and brutal those low leg kicks can be. Some of the best fighters have been chopped down by those. _________________ -Valiss |

Pat Barry is a great fighter and I'm glad to see him in the WCL. His low kicks are devestating. You guys should check out this site(WCL)! There is a lot of cool stuff to be read and learned. Pat Barry already lost a match in the WCL to Jarrell Miller. Jarrell Miller is a young 19 year old fighter that is most definetly up and coming in the WCL. His youth scares the Hell out of me! To be young again.........lol _________________ Steamroller by definition: A crushing force especially when ruthlessly applied to overcome opposition.
