|

Something seems to have changed for the worse this season.
Last season opponents would show some sportsmanship after the decision by touching gloves or even giving their opponent a pat on the back. Of course there were exceptions.
This year it seems like at their best the fighters ignore each other, or else they do some kind of end zone dance. Save that stuff for the end if your team wins. |

What are you talking about K31? Even though I haven't heard much from the WCL, trash talk is an integral part of sports designed to hype up a fight. As a fan I could care less if the two people fighting like or hate each other, I simply expect them to fight a hard, clean fight.
So far the WCL has had 3 shows this season (for some reason Versus Network isn't showing a fight this week) and I haven't seen any blatant disrespect. I don't care if they hug after a match or not, as long as they aren't insulting the other fighter after a match. If they want to dance, let them dance. _________________ -Valiss |

The after fight interview by one of the LA Stars after the Denver Fury fight was the worst I've ever seen, continuely refering to his opponent as a girl. |

Yes, it was Donald Vickers, I did not see the disqualification but the interview was the most classless I have ever seen. You go in there to kick your opponents arse, when it's over and especially after you've had time to think about it come up with something better than that. They try to hurt their opponent in the UFC but when it's over, it's over. |

Yes, it was classless and he probably shouldn't have said it, but to say it "was the most classless" interview you had ever seen is a little dramatic, don't you think? |

Dramatic, no - maybe a little exhaserated. Oh well, on to the next. |

This sport, and all others like it in which two participants fight in a controlled environment is what it is, a sport. I laugh at all of the show boating, taunting and poor sportsmanship from a lot of the fighters.
Anyone who practices anykind of martial arts should know that all practioners should respect fellow martial artists.
If any grandmaster would see this type of behavior they would have that competitor do some pushups in front of everyone.
I'd like to see any of these fighters compete on "the Perfect Weapon", that's the real combat! |

There's a great deal of trash talking in MMA also, which is intentionally designed to build up hype. It's just another way to market the fighters and their sport.
Fropm my viewpoint the title "GRANDMASTER" is nothing more than hype , since I only see it used to justify ridiculously high membership fees. Yes , those rigid, robotic, egotistical systems can and do produce results, but they're just pyramid schemes in the end. I much prefer a more modern environment headed by an approachable head instructor , not by Master Foo Lee who may visit once per year. |

The term grandmaster was a well respected rank back when Martial Arts was for one thing only, self defense in a life situation. That is my interpretation of the title.
Western influence has changed the arts throughout the world for the sake of money and fame.
Sorry, I'm not a UFC Lemming. |

Martial arts have been used in competition for centuries , long before UFC existed. There are many examples such as Greco -Roman wrestling and pugilists , Japanese Sumo , Muay Thai , China boxing , Kali , Escrima ...the list can go on with variations of those arts and others which are lesser known. It was quite common to test the effectiveness of an art's technique in full contact competition, with far less precation then today's expected standards. If a given style can't adapt to the changing times , it dies. The 'Real" grandmasters of yore would certainly have acknowleged that.
Brazilian Jiu Jutsu a fine example since it is an evolution of proven body mechanics , refined to exploit technique over brute force. There's no way to ignore its impact upon martial arts as we know them today. |

You people talking shit on a fighter like Vickers, thats not smart. Do you actually know him? I do. Spent 4 months playing football and partying with this guy every night. Calling him classeless is a lil over-kill. Did you actually watch that fight?? i was in the front row and he flat out killed the guy. Then the disqualification happened after the fight. I would be a lil classless after that too. You people dont know Vickers, so shut it. That is how the guy is and especially when given a reason (the dis-qualification). This is a fighting sport and if you, as fans, cant deal with a lil trash talk from a pissed off fighter, then find another sport to watch. Vickers was actually taking hits to the face on purpose in this fight. He was letting the guy hit him and was laughing bout it to. It's funny, people get on here talkin shit on a guy they know nothing about. You shoulda watched the fight before you comment on his interview. _________________ pinhead |
