you know its kinda sad. I live 25 mins from tulsa and i have not seen 1 ad for the fights on the 23rd. this is chucks home state. you would think that he could get a few networks to advertise the fights. i see commercials for kickboxing/boxing fights at the local casinos all the time....it just seems like the wcl isnt vesting enough intrest to make it last. its the fighters of the wcl that keep it alive. and if i didnt hear about this website i would have never heard of the WCL. I hope it stays around because i agree i would rather see "kockouts not tapouts". Hope there is a good turnout in tulsa again. _________________ wcllover |

WCLloveer, Keep spreading the word for us! You sound like a great fan of the WCL. We need more fans with your love and enthusiasm. I started out this year as the Heavyweight back up for St. Louis, I'm now the back up for Denver. Being in the league has been a lot of fun. I will be at the event in Oklahoma, come over and say hello if you make it out. It would be cool meeting you in person!

Steamroller, thanks for the schedule! I've got all the dates marked down and got a Fight Night party set up at my place this Sunday for the season premier. _________________ -Valiss |

UFC has so many fighters coming in on a regular basis. UFC own WEC and PRIDE.
If WCL can get on TV more often then I think it will grow in popularity, but I do not think it can contend or surpass UFC. Ground fighting is too popular and too important in fighting which is why UFC does so well, even if it does seem a bit boring at times. Too many spectators want ground fighting. WCL does not give it to them.
Not that it is bad to have an all stand up fighting league. I understand what Chuck Norris is trying to do: keep fighters on their feet to continuosly bang away until the end. This will always be one of the greatest tests of phisical fitness.
It is probably best to not compare these 2 leagues of fighting. What I would like to see is a fighter in the UFC and also in the WCL and be one of the best in both. This would be by my definition one of the best rounded fighters of all. |

I agree that comparing the WCL to the UFC is apples and oranges. WCL would compare more to K-1 or some other striking contest. Though in that respect, it's not nearly as popular as K-1 right now, but K-1 has been around for years.
WCL would benefit from getting some big name fighters to come in for a season or two. I have read about the WCL on other martial arts message boards and most people seem to know very little about the league. But what they do know is stuff like Guy Mezger and Pete Spratt are/were in it.
I know the WCL is a team sport, so in that repsect it's like the IFL, but traditionally fighting sports focus on individual fighters. So many people are used to following their favorite fighter around to each organization. Bringing those big names to the WCL might get those types of viewers warmed up to the team style fighting. _________________ -Valiss |

thankyou i have already got about 20+ people coming. I'm a waitress and i tell every table i get about it and when the next fight is going to be in tulsa. Alot of people never even knew it existed. So fighters give them a good show so next season they will tell even more friends. I want to see the wcl in the same league with the UFC and IFL when it comes to television. I think if the wcl could get different network sponcership and be available on all systems (satalite and cable) then more people would see it. they also have a crazy schedule on vs. I think the WCL could have just as big of fan base as all the other leagues with better advertisment. But everything costs money and you gotta make money to spend money. I'm sure after next season it will blow up. I also hope they add more teams to make more competition. So they wont fight all the same fighters all the time. I'm glad they are letting the alternates fight and are letting them show the crowd what they can do. _________________ wcllover |

As wcllover said, it would probably fair better on another network - maybe someone with more distribution. That said, I'm glad that Versus seems to have scheduled the matches somewhat consistently on Sunday afternoons. That will make it easier for everyone to follow and get viewers interested.
Last night was the first match of the season (for those of us that watch WCL via Versus anyway) and I will say that this season is shaping up to be a GREAT one!! I organized a WCL fight night at my place, complete with BBQ and drinks, and everyone had a great time! In fact I plan on making Sunday afternoons at my place WCL Fight Night until the season ends. I think we had about 10 people or so over for the season premier match. The match was exciting, the production value on Versus was better than last season and the overall event felt more 'professional' than before. It's great to see the WCL coming into it's own and I hope it continues to spread with more teams and sponsors. _________________ -Valiss |
